Ioannis Masoutis was born and raised in Thessaloniki. Having completed his military service, he joined the company Diamantis Masoutis S.A. and became familiar with every aspect of its operation. His career at the company began in 1990 as assistant manager at the ‘Masoutis’ store on Makedonias Street in Thessaloniki. He completed his training in 1992, taking on the post of manager of the ‘Masoutis’ store in Kallikrateia, Halkidiki.

He worked at the central warehouses of the company from 1993 to 1995 and at the marketing department from 1996 to 1997. In 1998, he was appointed Vice-President of the company, as well as director of the purchasing department. He served as President of the company from 2011 to 2014. He served as CEO from 2015 to 2022 and, since 2022, has been serving as President and CEO of the company.

Ioannis Masoutis has been a director of the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) since 2006. He has been a member of the Association of Greek Food Enterprises (AGFE) since 2008 and a member of the Research Institute of Retail Consumer Goods (RIRCG) since 2011.

He has served as President of TCCI since 2017. He stood for election in 2017, heading a coalition seeking the presidency, and was elected President with a percentage of 91.2%.

In 2018, he was elected 1st Vice-President of the Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce (UHCC).

In February 2022, he was elected President of the Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce (UHCC).

In 2018, Ioannis Masoutis signed the largest buyout in the company's history to date, leading to the dynamic entry of Diamantis Masoutis S.A. into the Attica market. Through this expansion, the company, already a market leader in Northern Greece, considerably enhanced its dynamism throughout the country.

In June 2022, Ioannis Masoutis signed a strategic agreement with the SYN.KA Crete Supermarkets S.A. company, expanding the company's presence with stores on Greek islands, including Corfu, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, the Eastern Aegean and Crete.
