Dr. George Broufas (male) is an Associate Professor in Entomology and Agricultural Zoology, the head of the Laboratory of Agricultural Zoology & Entomology and the Laboratory of Phytopathology and the head of the postgraduate studies program of the Department of Agricultural Development at Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). He also serves as an adjunct Professor of the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICH) where he teaches a postgraduate course on Integrated Pest Management. He is an active member of the International Organisation for Biological Control (IOBC) and the Convenor of the Working Group ‘Integrated Control of Plant-Feeding Mites’. He has a first degree in Agricultural Sciences (Crop Production) and a PhD in Entomology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). He has performed postdoctoral research at the University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands). His research focuses on tritrophic (herbivores – plant – predator) interactions, biological control of plant pests, and insecticide resistance and pesticide side-effects to herbivores and non-target beneficial arthropods.
