Alberto Costa was elected as the Member of Parliament for South Leicestershire in the 2015 General Election.
Alberto is a graduate of the University of Glasgow, having graduated with Master of Arts (distinction), and Bachelor of Laws. Alberto is a lawyer by profession, qualified to practice as a solicitor in both England & Wales as well as Scotland.
Alberto served on the House of Commons Justice Select Committee between 2015 and 2017, scrutinizing the work of the Ministry of Justice and undertaking inquiries on aspects of the British criminal and civil justice systems.
He was appointed by former Prime Minister Theresa May as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Scotland serving between 2017 and 2019 and then appointed by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Attorney General, serving between 2020 and 2022.
In 2024, Alberto was elected as Chair of the House of Commons Standards Committee with cross-party support from his parliamentary colleagues. He was subsequently elected by his Standards Committee colleagues as Chair of the House of Commons Privileges Committee
He also serves as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Greece, as well as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups for Italy and Microplastics.
