Cengiz Çandar, scholar and a journalist and was a Special Advisor to President of Turkey, Turgut Özal (1991-1993). Public Policy Scholar at the Wilson Center and Senior Fellow at U.S. Institute of Peace, Washington, D.C. (1999-2000). Adjunct Professor, Istanbul Bilgi University (1997-1999), Istanbul Kültür University (2002-2010) and Özyeğin University (2011). Senior Columnist of the daily Radikal, (2008-2016). Columnist of the Washington-based online Al Monitor. Author of nine books in Turkish, Mezopotamya Ekspresi – Bir Tarih Yolculuğu (Mesotopamia Express-A Journey in History) (2012) is translated into Arabic and Kurdish. His last two books Turkey’s Mission Impossible, War and Peace with the Kurds (2020) and Turkey’s Neo-Ottomanist Moment, A Eurasianist Odyssey (2021) were written in English and published in the U.S. and U.K. Cengiz Çandar, currently is the Distinguished Scholar at the SUITS (Stockholm University Institute of Turkish Studies) and Senior Associate Fellow at the UI (Swedish Institute of International Affairs).
