Vladimír Bilčík has been a Member of the European Parliament for the EPP Group since 2019. He focuses on the fight against disinformation and hybrid threats, protection of the rule of law and EU enlargement. In the AFET Committee he has been serving as the EP Standing Rapporteur for relations with Serbia. He is also the Chair of the European Parliament's Delegation to the EU-Montenegro Stabilisation and the Association Parliamentary Committee and the Lead Member for the Western Balkans in the EP´s Democracy Support and Election Coordination Group (DEG).

The EU enlargement process, especially in relation to the Western Balkans, has been brought once more to the forefront of the Union’s agenda, due to the great geopolitical shifts in the EU neighborhood. With diverging opinions on that matter, a political chess-game has been underway in Brussels and European capitals on how to proceed. EU Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen unveiled a new Western Balkans support plan last May, while a summit of Western Balkans leaders in Athens in August paved the way for future developments.
