Dr. Georgios Kyrtsos is a Member of the European Parliament in the Renew Europe Group. He was voted into the European Parliament in 2014 and again in 2019. He has since been serving on the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. He recently joined the Committee of Foreign Affairs as a substitute Member. In addition to his committee assignments, Georgios Kyrtsos is a Member of the European Parliament's delegations to the EU-UK Parliamentary Partnership Assembly, the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee and the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly. He has a strong interest in the political, economic and social developments in Latin America and has been active in promoting and defending media freedom and freedom of expression all over the world. Georgios Kyrtsos was born in Athens, Greece in 1952. In 1975, he graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a degree in Industrial Management. In 1976, he received a Master’s degree in European Studies from the London School of Economics and in 1982 a PhD in International Relations also from the London School of Economics. From 1982 to 2002 he worked as political analyst, director and publisher in major newspapers and magazines, Eleftheros Typos and Economicos Tachidromos. From 2008 to 2014, he was publisher and owner of Free Sunday, weekly freely distributed newspaper in Athens, the region of Attica and Thessaloniki and CityPress, daily newspaper freely distributed in Athens and the region of Attica.
